Bio

Abi Haywood is a London-based artist from Cardigan, West Wales. Her interdisciplinary practice spans Ceramic Sculpture, Sound & Performance, Writing, and Multimedia Installations.

Her ongoing self-produced original radio play, 'The Môr the Merrier', is a comedic exploration of small-town life and coastal gentrification in Wales, inspired by Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood. She voices all characters and creates the sound design, capturing the quick-witted rhythm of Welsh storytelling. The play is broadcast through a custom surround sound speaker system housed inside her ceramic and metal sculptures.

Abi’s writing often informs her sculptural work. She is currently working on a historical fiction novel titled, 'The Land Took Itself Away From Us, Why Not Leave It Behind?' set in a mythic version of rural 19th-century Wales, it explores illness & IBS, land justice, enclosure and emigration. This narrative world is beginning to shape new sculptural forms that reflect its bodily, emotional, and political landscapes.

Abi studied Fine Art with Art History at the Slade School of Fine Art (UCL) and Ceramics at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
